INTRODUCTION

This training aims to enhance the capacities of humanitarian workers and practitioners in designing, implementing and evaluating Sustainable Livelihoods and Economic Recovery programmes based on disaster risk reduction and Sustainable Development principles. There is a growing recognition of the need to implement sustainable development activities after disaster and emergencies as part of economic recovery programs. This course provides the techniques and means to do so which are often not known to those responsible for post-disaster recovery. The training intends to bridge this gap by building the capacities of practitioners in the design and implementation of post-disaster economic recovery programs/interventions that integrate Sustainable Development Goals and Disaster Risk Reduction. It will improve their understanding of livelihood diversification, skills training, etc. and also provide them with tools which can facilitate decision making related to economic recovery that result in sustainable livelihoods and economies by:

  • Enhancing the resilience of communities to future climatic change events;
