Establishing and maintaining Laboratory QMS
Details
Introduction
For laboratories to meet internal and accreditation standards, the lab leadership should establish a quality management system. The lab QMS is a system for continuously analyzing, improving, and reexamining resources, processes, and services within an organization. The primary objective of establishing and maintaining a quality management system is to achieve the best possible outcome. Managing the developing and implementation of a robust quality program requires a global understanding of resource mobilization and allocation, processes and outcomes associated with laboratory medicine as well as accreditation systems and regulatory requirements
Developing an effective lab QMS is challenging because the goal of the program (best possible outcome) is often difficult to quantify and may involve processes that are not under direct control of laboratory management. Thus, quality assessment of laboratory medicine should be part of the organization’s total quality plan. The total testing process is a concept that provides a comprehensive working model for evaluating the components of laboratory quality management plan as an interdependent component of and organization’s total quality improvement program. The total testing process consists of pre-analytic, analytic and post analytic processes.
Organizational structure, personnel management, as well as safety are also important components of total quality management in laboratory
