INTRODUCTION

The course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the MEAL cycle and its key components. MEAL is an essential aspect of development programming, ensuring that activities and interventions are effective, efficient, and impactful. It also enables organizations to be accountable to their stakeholders and to learn from their experiences.

Over the course of the course duration, the course explores the four key components of MEAL: monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning. Starting with an overview of MEAL, its importance, and the MEAL cycle. From there, we will delve into each component, exploring their purpose, key principles, and practical tools and techniques for implementation.

Throughout the course, participants will engage in interactive sessions, case studies, group work, and hands-on exercises to apply the concepts learned. The participants will also have the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from their peers. By the end of the course, participants will have a strong understanding of the MEAL cycle and its key components, as well as practical tools and techniques to implement MEAL in their organizations or projects. They will also have developed practical skills in designing and implementing MEAL activities for different types of development projects and programs. The course aims to enable participants to enhance the effectiveness and impact of their programming and enable them to be more accountable to their stakeholders.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Participation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The course objectives for this Monitoring Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) course are as follows:

 

  •       Understand the concept and importance of MEAL and the MEAL cycle as a whole
  •       Develop skills in designing, implementing, and managing monitoring and evaluation frameworks and systems
  •       Understand the principles and tools for developing and implementing accountability mechanisms and feedback systems
  •       Develop skills in designing, implementing, and managing learning and knowledge management systems
  •       Learn how to integrate the four MEAL components into program design and implementation, for greater impact and effectiveness
  •       Learn how to use data for decision-making, program improvement, and reporting
  •       Develop skills in stakeholder engagement and collaboration, to ensure effective MEAL implementation and stakeholder satisfaction
  •       Develop practical skills in designing and implementing MEAL activities for different types of development projects and programs
  •       Understand the ethical considerations and challenges in MEAL implementation
  •       Gain practical experience in applying MEAL concepts and tools to real-world scenarios, through case studies, group work, and hands-on exercises.

Module 3: Evaluation

  •       Definition and importance of evaluation
  •       Types of evaluation (impact, outcome, process)
  •       Key principles of evaluation
  •       Developing evaluation frameworks and questions
  •       Data analysis techniques

Module 4: Accountability

  •       Definition and importance of accountability
  •       Types of accountability (internal, external)
  •       Key principles of accountability
  •       Developing accountability mechanisms and processes
  •       Stakeholder engagement and feedback mechanisms

Module 5: Learning

  •       Definition and importance of learning
  •       Types of learning (individual, organizational)
  •       Key principles of learning
  •       Knowledge management and sharing
  •       Action planning and implementation

General Notes

  •       The instructor-led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprise presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web-based tutorials, and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professionals and trainers in these fields.
  •       The participants should be reasonably proficient in English as all facilitation and course materials will be offered in English.
  •       Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued a certificate.
  •       The training will be held at Kincaid Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments, and lunch.
  •       All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
  •       Accommodation and airport pickup are arranged upon request. For reservations contact the Training Coordinator
  •       This training can also be customized to suit the needs of your institution upon request. You can have it delivered in our Kincaid Training Centre or at a convenient location.
