In this introduction to BIM course, we shall take you through the fundamentals of BIM, its benefits and challenges it address within the AEC Industry. After covering what isn’t BIM, we will understand the journey from CAD to BIM and how the construction sector has adapted to this new BIM technology. You will also get to know how this technology has digitalized the designing and construction process and brought higher levels of effectiveness and efficiency to construction projects.

BIM technology uses various tools for construction management. Some of the tools used are Revit, Formit, ArchiCAD for authoring, Navisworks and Autodesk BIM Collaborate for coordination and collaboration, Autodesk TakeOff forestimating, 3DS Max and Sketchup for actual side view modeling in virtual reality, 4D for Time Management and Project Tracking, 5D For Quantity take-off and Cost Estimating and Tekla Structures and Robot Structural Analysis for Structural Analysis and Design. We shall also introduce you to the concept of Common Data Environment (CDE) and its relevance in the digital information management process. On the InfraStructure side, tools like Infraworks is used for Context 3D Concept design while incorporating real time site date from GIS and quickly being able to move to preliminary and detailed design, while visualising, simulation from various design aspects such as traffic, mobility and design suitability.
